Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini on Tuesday urged the Untied Nations to take drastic reforms to better adjust itself to a changing world.
But Frattini reiterated Italy's opposition to increasing the number of seats on the Security Council.
"The United Nations must become able to face the transnational challenges. But this cannot just mean concentrating on Security Council reform, particularly if it simply ends up creating extra seats," he said.
"There must be a focus on making the rotation process more democratic and transparent, taking into account the contribution of each country to the UN's traditional missions," he added.
