Top Legislator Meets Malaysian Paramount Ruler

Top legislator Wu Bangguo met with Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Paramount Ruler) Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur Tuesday and said China-Malaysia relations have reached maturity.

Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said the normalization of bilateral relations 31 years ago opened a new chapter in China-Malaysia friendship and also created conditions for the development of China's relationship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

After more than 30 years of development, the good-neighborly relations of friendship between the two countries have reached maturity and entered a new period of all-round development, Wu said.

Wu said that during his stay in Malaysia, he was impressed by the strong wishes of both sides to develop the strategic cooperation between the two countries. He expressed the belief that China-Malaysia relations are bound to embrace an even brighter future as long as both sides stick to their wishes and make continued efforts to enhance trade and economic cooperation, personnel exchanges and cooperation in other fields.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said China-Malaysia friendly relations have developed well since the establishment of diplomatic ties and the mutually beneficial cooperation have brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. He said Malaysia is ready to increase its cooperation with China in energy, education, culture and tourism for the benefit of the two peoples.

Wu arrived in Malaysia on Saturday for a four-day official goodwill visit to the country, the last leg of his four-nation Asia-Pacific tour, which has also taken him to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Wu left for home on Tuesday.
