Musharraf to take oath as president on Nov. 29
Adjust font size:

Incumbent Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will take oath as a civilian president for the next 5-year term on Nov. 29, the president's spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said on Monday.

Musharraf will pay his last visit as the army chief to the General Headquarters in the garrison city Rawalpindi on Wednesday to make a farewell call on the commanders and to thank them for their support, according to local press reports.

Musharraf will hand over command of the army to Vice Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiani who is expected to take office as the Army Chief on Thursday.

Official invitations have been sent to the guests to attend the oath-taking ceremony at "Aiwan-e-Sadr" (Presidency), Rashid Qureshi said.

The ceremony would be attended by governors, ministers, Chief Ministers, diplomats, services chiefs and other senior officials, said the reports.

The ceremony will be held at the Presidency in capital Islamabad and Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar will administer the oath-taking process.

The Election Commission of Pakistan Saturday notified the election of General Pervez Musharraf as president of Pakistan. The cabinet division is expected to make an official announcement of the presidential election results later.

Musharraf gained a clear majority in the presidential election on Oct. 6. However, the Supreme Court on Oct. 5 barred the election commission from issuing an official notification of the result before a final verdict was given on petitions challenging Musharraf's presidential candidacy.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the last petition against Musharraf's reelection, validating the presidential elections.
