The flood situation in east India's Assam state remained grim Monday with more than 400,000 people affected.
According to the Press Trust of India, the situation in the worst-hit Dhemaji district in upper Assam and Hailakandi and Karimganj districts in South Assam remained grave as vast areas remained under water with the rivers in spate.
In Dhemaji district, road and rail communication in various areas including national highway number 52 was affected as flood water of Jiadhol river inundating them.
In Karimganj and Hailakandi districts, Kushiara, Singla and Longai rivers were flowing above the danger mark and inundated vast low-lying areas.
In the three districts, nearly 300,000 have been affected.
Army completed rescue work in 40 villages of Nagrijuli area in Nalbari district affected by flood on Sunday.
The swirling water of Pagladiya river washed away an embankmentof Kothalkhopa village, inundating vast areas.
