Integrative medicine and human health will be discussed in Beijing this Sunday at the Second World Integrative Medicine Congress (WIMCO 2002), said the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine. More than 1,200 experts and scholars from 27 countries will attend the meeting.
The association, which promotes the integration of traditional and modern medicine, said the congress aims to "promote the development of integrative medicine," and plans to focus on clinical studies, training and applications in integrative medicine, as well as treatment of AIDS, diabetes and drug addiction.
The United States will send the largest delegation of more than 80 experts, followed by Japan with 59.
"Integrating advantages of modern medicine and traditional medicine is playing an increasingly important role," said Chen Keji, an academic at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine.
"The congress will help push traditional Chinese medicine to the forefront of the world," Chen said.
The Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, which was founded in 1981, has more than 60,000 members.
