Nation to Develop Environment-friendly Carrier Rocket
China will develop a new generation large-thrust carrier rocket with no poisonous emission or pollution, before 2010, said Tang Yihua, head of the Beijing Institute of Space Navigation Systems Engineering, Chinese Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology.

Besides being poison and pollution free, the new rocket will be low cost and high safety and adaptable. Tang said they will try not only to develop the rocket, but also put it onto the market before 2010. He said that the institute had examined the project and tackled its key technology, setting a strong basis for its research and development.

He also said while developing the rocket, the institute carried out other research programs of space navigation, including those relating to carrier technology in the launch process, space exploration (such as a moon expedition) and quick-entry procedure, as well as technologies on multi-use launch vehicles. He said these programs have so far achieved a great deal.

The Beijing Institute of Space Navigation Systems Engineering has a 45-year-old history and is praised for being home of the Chinese Long-march Series Carrier Rocket and its architect. The institute has considerable technical force, boasting many designs and research projects in bullet (rocket) structure, remote-measurements, electronic direction, ballistic path, load, environment and rocket collectivity design.

The institute has developed 13 types of carrier rockets in three series and launched over 60 spacecrafts. Its space technologies also improved from conventional thrust to low-temperature high-power thrust; from series thrust to binding-type thrust; from one satellite by one rocket to multi-satellites by one rocket and from satellite launch to manned spaceship launch. The institute?s carrier power and liability reach world advanced level.
