Shanghai Landmarks (II)
Shanghai Grand Theatre

Located in the northwest of the People's Square, occupying an area of 11,528 sq.m. with a total floor space of 70,000 sq.m., consists of 3 theatres for performing opera, ballet, symphony, chamber music, stage play and dance drama. It is equipped with an automatic mechanical stage, the largest and most advanced in Asia. Shanghai Grand Theatre has become a modern cultural symbolic architecture in Shanghai.

Shanghai Stadium

Shanghai stadium has a total floor space of 170,000 sq.m. The diameter of the stadium is 273m. In the center of the stadium is a lawn football ground of international standard. Around the football ground is a 400m track and areas for different kinds of field and track sports. The stadium is one of the symbolic architectures in Shanghai.

Shanghai Historical Museum

It has collected about 20,000 pieces of historical relics with special local feature of Shanghai. It fully and systematically describes the history of Shanghai's development since the Opium War in 1840.

Shanghai Library

With a history of 44 years,Shanghai Library was moved at the end of 1996 to Huaihai Road at the crossroad of Gaoan Road. The new library occupies an area of 3.1 hectares with a floor space of 83,000 sq.m.. The exterior is of multiple step style. It keeps 13 million copies of books and magazines. It is the second largest and the first electronically equipped library in China with a multifunctional lecture hall, exhibition halls, a theatre with simultaneous interpretation and other advanced facilities.

Yuyuan Garden

A classical garden south of the Yangtse with a history of over 400 years. Halls, chambers, towers and pavilions, rockeries and flowing streams all express the essence of the Ming and Qing Dynasty garden architecture of the South. There are more than 40 scenic spots in the garden ingeniously partitoned, offering visitors a different scene at every step.

Jade Buddha Temple

In 1882 Monk Huigen brought back from Buddha statues and built a temple to enshrine them. The statues are the ingenious works of the Buddhist world. Buddhist ceremonies are conducted here all the time. As a famous Buddhist temple it is wellknown both at home and abroad.

Longhua Temple

An ancient temple with the longest history and largest scale in Shanghai built in the year 242. It keeps the original feature of the Song Dynasty Zan Sect Jialan seven-hall design. In the temple are kept Buddhist scripture, gold seals and Buddhist statues of the Tang, Five, Ming and Qing Dynasties. At night on every New Year eve the ceremony of "Striking the Longhua Evening Bel" is conducted here and is wellknown in the country and abroad.

Shanghai Folk Collection Exhibition Hall

It has a collection of over 200 kinds. It is known as "half of China's collections, which are featured for their "novelty", "uniqueness", "exquisiteness" and "resourcefulness".
