Temples in Mount Hengshan (I)
Nanyue Temple

There is an attractive high tablet beside 107 national road. It is over 20 meters high and over 20 meters wide, is supported by four poles and is one of the largest granite construction in the interior country. In the middle of it , there are "Nanyue Heng Mountain" written by Liu Haili and on the poles there are several couplets.

The famous Nanyue Temple is situated 400 meters at the right back side. Passing Nanyue Xiang Fair, the grand Nanyue Temple is standing before you. The gate of Nanyue Temple is a 20-meter-high stone gate called Lingxing Gate. Entering Lingxing Gate, you reach Kuixing Pavilion soon, whose two sides there are Clock Pavilion and Drum Pavilion. Once past Kuixing Pavilion, Chuang Door is seen and then Yupei Pavilion with one tablet inside. After Yupei Pavilion, there reaches Jiaying Door and then Yushu Pavilion. After passing Yushu Pavilion, there reaches the main hall of Nanyue Temple called Shendi Hall, which looks magnificent and has two layers and is over 30 meters high and over 50 meters wide. In the middle there consecrates the figure of Nanyue Shendi. With 72 large stone poles supporting the hall, it looks magnificent and characteristic. Passing Shendi Hall, it is Mausoleum wirh the sitting figure of Saint Father and Saint Mother. The back of Mausoleum it is the back door. Besides, there are two halls, one is Zhusheng Hall, belonging to Taoism, and the other is Xiashen Hall, belonging to Buddhism.

Until reaching Nanyue Moumtain, travelers first visit Nanyue Temple and then to Heng Mountain.

Zhushen Temple

It is not away from Nanyue Temple. It is magnificent and trim. It is composed of Mountian Gate, Guan Emperor Hall, Daxiong Treasured Hall, Speech Room and Abbot Room and so on, altogether five levels.

The first level is Mountain Gate, the second level is Guan Emperor Hall with Guan Yu Scripture. The third level is the main hall called Daxiong Sacred Hall and also Dafawang Temple with three gold figures---Sakyamuni in the middle and Amitabha on the left and Druggist Glass Buddha on the right. The fourth level is Speech Room, whose left is Druggist Hall and the right is Guanyin Room. The fifth level is Abbot Room and the right room is Arhat Room.

Zhushen Temple was built in early Tianbao Period in Tang Dynasty. Its construction is simple, grand, quiet and majestic.

Nappe Cave

Nappe Caveis a feathered attraction. It lies under Zigai Peak and 4 kilometers away from zhushen Temple. It is repoted to be the location of Zhuling Emperor and also called Wash Heart Spring and Dongzheng Well.

The most famous in Nappe Cave is foundation. Walking along the brook and past the stone bridge, you can see stones with different poses and different expressions. In the brook there is a stone carving of "Cong Tui Zui Shi". Climbing onto the brent, you will see falling foundation. The poems of Li Bai suddenly enter your mind.

The foundation falls into a stone pool and after full water falls to form second layer foundation.

Beside Nappe Cave, there is a pavilion called Snow Pillow Pavilion standing in the north bank for tourists to watch the foundation. Besides, on the stone walls there are over 50 ancient stone carvings and most were done by famous people since Tang and Song Dynasty. With beautiful scenery and pretty characters, it is very attracting for travelers.
