The Real China. Directors Plan, which aims to discover
new Chinese talents in documentary filmmaking, has entered its
final phase with twenty candidates being selected to join the final
competition on November 19, sohu.com reports today.
The final candidates will have to present their documentary
proposals to a panel of judges consisting of
internationally-renowned directors.
Sohu.com reports the eight final winners will be given abundant
funds for their new productions, along with opportunities to debut
in international documentary competitions.
The organizers of the Real China. Directors Plan have
invited big-name directors to give master classes to candidates.
Those invited include "The Peach Blossom Land" director Stan Lai,
Oscar-nominated filmmaker Christine Choy, and acclaimed Beijing
director Zhang Yuan.
The Real China. Directors Plan was first initiated in
June, aiming to create a stage for local talents and to encourage
the development of documentary films in China.
Over 300 aspiring directors have submitted their proposals
before the final list of candidates was whittled down to 20.
The eight winners will be announced on November 23.
