Young Investors in Stock Market Stir Controversy
Adjust font size:

The current bull stock market in China is attracting a large number of new investors, including young college students.

A recent survey by jxnews.com.cn found a rising number of college students in major Chinese cities are entering the stock market, with most, however, investing the money given by their parents to cover their living expenses.

The survey also found students majoring in economics only account for a small proportion.

The results have sparked intense debate, as many say the unpredictable stock market distracts students from their studies, while others argue it's a great way to gain financial skills.

A college student in southwestern Sichuan province was recently reported to have made a total of 300,000 yuan (US$38,667) on the stock market over the past three years.

However, experts warn not all will be that lucky, and suggest students spend less time making risky investments.
