Lhalu Wetland attracts 2,000 migrant birds in winter

Yellow ducks are looking for food in the Lhalu Wetland in the suburbs of the Lhasa City.[Xinhua]

Every year, migrant birds such as yellow ducks, bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes come from northern Tibet's grassland to spend winter in the warmer southern part.

Today, the wetland has attracted an estimated 2,000 migrant birds spending winter, 1,800 more than the figure ten years ago.

Thanks to effective protection, the increasingly larger water and vegetation area has provided an ideal habitat for various species of aquatic life and water birds.

Moreover, with a higher awareness of environmental protection, Lhasa citizens have joined the campaign to create a paradise for those migrant birds. Any bird found injured will be sent to the wetland nature reserve.
