A sudden snow hits Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, while the day is still sunny, on March 9. |
"Weather has a certain relationship with earthquakes, but the relation is not definite," said Wei Jiansu, vice director of Jiangsu Provincial Meteorological Center. "After all, earthquake prediction is a thorny problem globally."
Zhang Zhenya, vice director of Jiangsu Provincial Earthquake Bureau, also saw no connection between the freak weather and a possible earthquake. "Electromagnetism, water chemical, fluid and topography are more reliable means to predict earthquakes," he said.
Earlier this week, it snowed in parts of the southeast. Frequent thunderstorms in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces indicate that flood season, which usually begins in May, has already arrived. In Shanghai, it rained for 14 days in a row.
