Authorities in Beijing issued a warning Wednesday over possible rain-triggered geological disasters in the city's mountainous areas in the upcoming three days.
From Wednesday night to Saturday, mudslides and landslides could possibly hit Mentougou, Fangshan, Huairou, Pinggu districts and Miyun county in Beijing' s suburbs, said a joint statement by the city's land and resources bureau and meteorological bureau.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected in the nation' s capital Wednesday night, and drizzles and showers are forecast in the coming three days, according to the meteorological bureau.
Meteorological experts said the soil on some mountains has been soaked after being slammed by previous downpours, and another 20 to 30 millimeters of rainfall could easily trigger landslides and mudslides.
Beijing is one of the geological disaster-prone cities in China. As of July, there were 597 sites in Beijing at risk of potential geological disasters.
