Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works has established the National Action Plan on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change on Public Works that consists of policies, strategies and programs to lower impacts of climate change, a minister said?in Jakarta?on Tuesday.
Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto in his keynote speech of "the International Conference on Urbanization in Climate Change: Spatial Planning and Low Carbon Cities" in Jakarta, said that these actions take forms as sectoral infrastructure and regional development, both in two geographical entities of urban and rural areas, within framework of spatial planning. "In general, there are four main agendas in the action plan," said Kirmanto. First, implementing the national and regional spatial plans to ensure safe, comfortable, productive and sustainable regions, he said.
"Second, increasing the quality and availability of water infrastructures in order to guarantee food security and to minimize the risks of flood, landslide, drought and coastal abbration,"said he. Third, improving the quality and quantity of urban and rural infrastructures in order to reduce risks of inundation and sanitation, he added.
"Fourth, enhancing the road infrastructure services to meet an increasing demand of mobility and accessibility to support socio- economic activities through better regulation, planning and implementation," he said.
