Drought in China's northern wheat production bases was eased after continuous precipitation beginning Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said on Tuesday.
The precipitation fell when the winter wheat was experiencing crucial growth and covered almost all the key wheat-growing regions, said a statement on the MOA website.
Despite obvious improvements, more efforts should be made on field management and further efforts to fight the drought, the expert said.
As of Sunday, the total acreage of drought-hit farm lands in eight wheat-growing provinces was 37.82 million mu (2.52 million hectares), down 73.69 mu from 20 days before when the drought was at its worst, the Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief headquarters said in a statement on its website.
