A senior Chinese official said Monday the country will help developing countries cope with global climate change.

Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planning agency, made the remarks at a seminar attended by 45 officials from 26 developing countries.

China will help developing nations that are severely affected by extreme climate to establish weather monitoring systems and weather forecasting stations in order to improve the countries' capabilities of monitoring and forecasting meteorological disasters, Xie said.

The country will promote the use of modern irrigation technologies to save water in developing countries, and help them preserve biological diversity and maintain forest conservation, he said.

Meanwhile, the country plans to establish small hydropower stations, solar power projects and garbage treatment plants in developing nations, and train 1,000 officials and technicians from these countries on how to deal with climate change over the next three years, Xie said.
