Q: In recent years, the Chinese economy has been
increasing every year at a rapid speed. However, under such an
inspiring economic situation, why does China always emphasize
awareness of anxiety? What are the serious problems in China's
economic situation at present?
A: The Boeing Company has shot a film simulating the "bankruptcy
of Boeing" and repeated showed it among its staff. The film greatly
shocked employees and made them realize that if they do not devote
themselves to the production and reform of the company, the
simulated bankruptcy will one day become a reality.
?
The Chinese nation has always been aware of anxiety, which is
reflected in the old saying: "Anxiety leads to survival, leisure
leads to death." China's GDP reached 13.65 trillion yuan (US$1.65
trillion) in 2004, with the State revenue, retail sales of social
consumer goods and total volume of import and export increasing
21.4 percent, 13.3 percent and 35.7 percent respectively, exceeding
the expected targets.
?
However, historical experience has taught us that it is necessary
to keep a clear mind and maintain awareness of anxiety despite the
inspiring situation. Although China is relatively well off, the
aggregate economy is only one ninth that of the United States, and
one fourth that of Japan, with per capita GDP only standing at
US$1,000.
China's well off is relative, unsound and imbalanced. The
country's productivity, science, technology and education are
fairly backward. There are still a large number of people living in
poverty. Pressures on employment and social security are
increasing. In short, it requires long-tem and arduous efforts to
consolidate and further promote the current development.
In addition, during the process of rapid economic development,
China continues to face a variety of risks. Some problems are even
getting worse, such as the gap between the rich and poor, ecology
and resources, corruption, loss of State assets, enterprise and
individual credibility, and the spread of AIDS. If these problems
are neglected or not reasonably dealt with, the sustained
development of China will be affected. To put it more seriously,
the survival of the whole nation will be at risk.
