A European health agency said on Thursday that 1,193 new A/H1N1 flu cases were reported in European countries within the last 24 hours.
Of the news cases, 380 were confirmed in Portugal, 323 in Germany, 258 in Italy and 128 in Norway, while the remaining 104 cases were reported in 10 other European countries, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in its daily situation report.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 flu virus in the EU (European Union) and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries increased to 47,828, with 16,584 cases in Germany, 13,095 in Britain, 2,624 in Portugal, 2,058 in Italy and 1,839 in Greece, the ECDC said.
The total number of fatal cases rose to 111 with one new fatal case from Norway, four from France and one from Malta, the ECDC added.
