China, Brazil to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation
Adjust font size:

The Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations with Brazil and the consolidation and deepening of the bilateral strategic partnership are in the fundamental interests of the people of both countries, said Vice Premier Wu Yi on Friday.

To develop a strategic partnership based on mutual trust, equality and reciprocity is also beneficial to the cooperation between developing countries, said Wu, hosting the first meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee with visiting Brazilian Vice President Jose Alencar.

China and Brazil have enjoyed an all-round growth of bilateral relations since the forging of diplomatic ties 32 years ago and the establishment of strategic partnership in 1993, and have achieved abundant results in cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, technology and culture, she acknowledged.

Alencar said China and Brazil share common points in many fields and Brazil hopes to further expand its cooperation with China. To strengthen cooperation between the two developing countries will be conducive to world prosperity and stability.

Both sides agreed that the two countries, as the largest developing countries in Asia and Latin America respectively, have a strong vitality in bilateral relations. The establishment of the coordination and cooperation committee embodies new strides made in the growth of the bilateral strategic partnership, and will help enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields and promote common development.

Both sides decided to set the six existing cooperation mechanisms of politics, trade, technology, aerospace, culture and agriculture to be sub-committees. Officials leading the six sub-committees made reports on their work, and proposed working plans for 2006 and 2007.

Both sides also decided to carry out cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, trade, technology, aviation and aerospace, agriculture, culture, energy and education, and to continue reinforce and deepen China-Brazil strategic partnership and promote bilateral reciprocal cooperation.

Wu signed with Alencar a summary of the meeting. Relevant departments from both sides also signed a series of memorandums on bilateral cooperation.
