Top Advisor: China, Ghana Have Broad Cooperation Prospects
Adjust font size:

Both China and Ghana are concentrating on economic development and there are broad prospects for furthering bilateral cooperation, said top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin in Accra Thursday.

At a meeting with Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor, Jia hailed the sound growth of bilateral ties, saying Ghana has become China's important cooperation partner in western Africa.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body, made a three-point proposal for the advancement of bilateral relations.

The first is to maintain the momentum of multi-layered contacts, especially at the high level.

The second is to implement the consensus reached last November between the two heads of state during the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and to further promote cooperation.

The third is to strengthen communication and coordination on international and African affairs so as to safeguard the rights and interests of developing nations.

Jia said the Taiwan question concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the fundamental interests and national feeling of the 1.3 billion Chinese people.

The Chinese government appreciates Ghana's one-China policy, said Jia, who arrived here Wednesday on an official visit.

Kufuor said the Ghanaian government has always paid great attention to relations with China and that it will, as always, firmly abide by its one-China policy and dedicate itself to strengthening bilateral friendship and cooperation.

The Ghanaian side will, within the framework of implementing the FCAC Beijing summit achievements, promote economic and trade cooperation with China and better carry out bilateral cooperation agreements, said Kufuor.

After the meeting, Jia and Kufuor attended a signing ceremony for six bilateral cooperation documents.

Ghana is the second leg of Jia's visit to four African countries, which has already taken him to Tunisia. He will also visit Zimbabwe and Kenya.
