Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday that he has no plans to attend a G8 meeting in Italy on the situation in Afghanistan, local ISNA news agency reported.
"I have no plan to travel to Italy," Mottaki told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with Iranian government officials.
Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said last Tuesday that Italy was "very concerned" over the situation in Iran while considering the street violence and the reported killing of protesters to be "unacceptable".
Frattini also reiterated that Iran was still invited to take part in the Group of Eight (G8) meeting this month on stabilizing the area of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The meeting of foreign ministers of G8 will be held on June 25- 27 in Trieste, the northeastern city of Italy, which currently holds the G8's rotating presidency.
G8 foreign ministers and their counterparts from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, China and India have been invited to attend the meeting.??
