China and the United States have agreed to enhance mutual trust through more intensive dialogue for a stable and mature relationship that is thought to have far-reaching influence globally.
"Fostering and deepening strategic mutual trust is crucial as China-U.S. relations enter a new stage," said a press release issued by the Chinese side after the second round of China-U.S. economic and strategic dialogue concluded Tuesday in Beijing.
The relationship of China and the United States, respectively as the world's largest developing and developed countries, is immensely important to the world, and the key to sound relations is strengthening mutual trust, said the release.
Both sides agreed to enhance communication and coordination on bilateral, regional and global issues, as both recognized that some differences and disputes are unavoidable in bilateral ties.
It is vital for both sides to respect each other's core interests, address major concerns, and properly handle disagreements and sensitive issues, said the release.
"Sitting together to identify common interests and disagreements is a great achievement of the dialogue," it said.
China emphasized that the two countries' relationship should be the one of partners, rather than competitors or enemies, it said.
Discussions during the economic track of the dialogue, including the global economic situation, economic growth pattern, trade and financial cooperation, were important in promoting strong, sustainable and balanced growth around the world, it said.
It said both sides carried out consultations on issues like energy security, climate change, UN peacekeeping during the strategic track of the dialogue.
The two-day event was attended by about 50 representatives from more than 40 departments of both countries.
