FM: Recent Tibetan monks' rally a deliberate plot
Adjust font size:

China on Thursday said the recent successive trouble by some monks in Lhasa was a deliberate political plot of the Dalai Lama group to cause social unrest, separate Tibet from China, and wreck the stable, harmonious and normal life of the Tibetan people.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang made the remarks at a regular press conference on Thursday afternoon when asked to comment on the rally by monks in Lhasa on Monday.

Qin said the current situation in Lhasa is stable thanks to the work of the local government and the democratic administrative committee of local temples.

Qin stressed Tibet conducted reform 49 years ago and more than a million serfs were liberated, adding that Tibet has undergone great changes since.

It is the common wish of all nationalities in Tibet to safeguard national unity, solidarity and the harmonious society, Qin said, noting that the plots of the Dalai Lama group are doomed to failure.

Qin said the Chinese government is determined to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the vast majority of the Tibetan people are determined to safeguard national unity and solidarity.

"We are resolutely opposed to any plots attempting to separate Tibet from China", Qin said.

Qin said relevant Chinese departments will handle the issue properly and strictly in accordance with law.
