The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will run new Internet suffixes beginning next year. Suffixes such as .BBC, .Sex, .beer and .app will be among the scores of such new web domains, the Daily Telegraph reported.
ICANN has so far received 1,930 applications but wouldn't guarantee all application would be approved.
Google had already said it is applying for .lol, .google, .youtube as well as several others, and appears to have applied for a number of 101 in total.
The bulk of applications were from brands applying for their own names, such as electronics manufacturer Canon applying for .canon.
