At the press conference after the game, the US coach and players were complementary of the Chinese team calling them one of the best teams of the world.
“China has rapidly gotten great,” said a US player.
Wang Ruixue, a Chinese player, said, “I think we performed very well today, the loss is just because USA is very strong and they played better.”
The Men’s final between China and Lithuania was also a great competition for spectators. It was a fast-paced game with many penalty throw and blocks.
The last penalty throw, ensuring China’s victory, was a team penalty for Lithuania because their coach mistakenly came out on the court for a forced time out.
“It was our mistake,” the coach said,” The feeling is awful. But we made lots of other mistakes. The Chinese team is the best. Their throws are excellent. Their victory shows what their team is worth.”
One of the star players on the Chinese team was thrower Chen Liangliang who scored twice to tie the match and then Yao Yongquan sealed the victory with a winning throw.
“After the last throw went in, my mind was blank,” Yongquan said,” I didn’t expect it to go in.”
China's coach Zhang Yong said it was an excellent game and a “dream come true.”
“We didn’t want to disappoint the spectators,” he said.
