A staff member of local flood and drought relief headquarters shows the water level of the Laohutan reservoir, which has declined 10 meters during the past five months in Huzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province, June 1, 2011. Due to the low rainfall, Huzhou had witnessed worsening drought since the start of this year, where the average precipitation from Jan. to May was 55% less than the previous years, only 38.4% of the amount recorded during the same period last year. The water shortage affected many people living in mountainous areas in Huzhou. Local government took various measures to ensure water supply for the needed in the drought-stricken areas, including providing water diverted from other places and tapping the stored water.
