Dead fish cover the water surface of Fuhe River in Nanchang city, capital of East China's Jiangxi province, Aug 17, 2011. Two temporary barrages were constructed in the river channel to block the river in order to make way for the bridge construction. The almost-stagnant waters heated by the summer's scorching sunshine resulted in a soar in water temperature, making it uninhabitable for fish, causing the massive fish deaths. The smell of dead fish can even be detected 50 meters away from the river. [Photo/CFP] |
