In May of 2010, the second phase of the project starts and adds another two sets of one-kilowatt-units, worth an investment of 25 billion yuan. After the completion of the plant in 2016, it will be able to annually generate 45 billion kWh in power. In addition, it will help optimize Liaoning province's power supply structure, realize a better energy conservation, reduce emissions and improve both air and water quality. The second phase consists of installing and testing the engineering equipment, including the proportioning of key equipment, of which 80 percent has been manufactured by China itself. This is the first time a nuclear power plant uses a seawater desalination system to provide fresh water to the Chinese mainland. [Photo/Xinhua] |
