Bayern crush Frankfurt, Wolfsburg remain top
Adjust font size:

German champions Bayern Munich revenged on Saturday by crushing Frankfurt 4-0 at home, while German Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg edged bottom-zoned Moenchengladbach 2-1 to keep their title hopes alive.

Bayern went into the match on the back of the 4-0 trashing by Barcelona in the Champions League last Wednesday as well as the 5-1 defeat to Wolfsburg last weekend, head coach Juergen Klinsmannwas thus facing sack off as it was reported by local media.

However, Bayern responded with a demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday in the Allianz Stadium.

This win moved Bayern up to the second position in the Bundesliga, just three points behind the leading club Wolfsburg.

Three minutes after the start of the match, French international Franck Ribery hammered the ball from outside of the box to the top left corner within 30 meters of distance. Only 15 minutes later Ribery shot a free-kick pass to Italian striker LucaToni, who, with a left volley shot, sent it into the center of the goal.

Just 18 minutes later, German midfielder Bastain Schweinsteiger shot a cross following corner and found Lucio who headed from the center of the box to the top right corner in the goal.

Frankfurt remained as under shock because of the faultless performance of Bayern Munich.

Only three minutes after the start of the second half, Bastian Schweinsteiger shot right footed from very close range to the bottom right corner.

This great victory keeps Klinsmann's job safe, and he smiled on the coach seat.

After the hard earned victory at Borussia Moenchengladbach, Sascha Riether's late goal kept Wolfsburg remain at the top of the top football league of the country.

With 54 points, Wolfsburg boast three more points than Bayern and Hamburg, who will play on Sunday.

Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin, both were former Bandesliga leaders this season, were snubbed again on Saturday.

Hertha's title hopes have suffered another huge blow, as they lost their third straight match, 2-0 at Hannover 96, and it looks as if the wait for the first title since 1931 will go on.

Hoffenheim have seen their winless run extended to nine matches by relegation candidates Bochum.

Ralf Rangnick's team lost 3-0 as Bochum cruised to their second away win of the season thanks to Stanislav Sestak's hat-trick.

Unfortunate for Hoffenheim, Carlos Eduardo and goalkeeper Daniel Haas were sent off with straight red cards.

Schalke 04 have handed interim coach Mike Buskens the second win in two games, beating Karlsruher SC 2-0.

Relegation-stricken Energie Cottbus brought their five-game losing streak to a timely end with a crucial victory 2-1 over fellow strugglers Arminia Bielefeld.
