Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain said on Wednesday that he hopes his goals will help him earn a new contract with the club.
The Argentinean is continually questioned by a sector of the press and the club, who would rather see big money signing Karim Benzema in Real' s starting 11 rather than a footballer who was signed by former President Ramon Calderon.

Higuain, however, is popular with the supporters, who admire his workrate and the fact he scores a goal on average once every 82 minutes.
He has scored 14 Primera Liga goals this season, with the last two coming against Villarreal last weekend. Now with his contract up for renewal in 2013 he wants to commit his long term future to the club, but is in no hurry to do so.
"It is a question that my representative (his father9 is looking after. They tell me details about what is happening, but I am not so worried because I am convinced I will win a new deal out on the pitch," Higuain said in Wednesday's edition of sports paper Diario AS.
"Everything that I do out on the pitch will favor my renewing my contract. I can't see myself wearing a different shirt to Real Madrid's and I hope to be here a long time," he added.
Despite his exceptional form Higuain admitted that he was still not the finished item as a player.
"I would say this is the best of my three season here to date, but I still have a lot to learn and a lot to improve. My aim is to improve on the number of goals (22) that I scored last season."
"I am top scorer in the league and I am happy. Now my aim is to end the season as top scorer and to do that I have to keep working and with humility," said Higuain.
