Fernando Torres scored twice to help Liverpool beat Lille 3-0, reaching the quarterfinals of the Europa League Thursday by 3-1 on aggregate.
Liverpool evened the first-leg deficit in the ninth minute at Anfield when Adil Rami fouled Lucas Leiva and Steven Gerrard striked home a penalty.
Torres added the second goal in the 49th minute, racing clear of the defense before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper. The Spain striker made it 3-0 in the final minute when he fired home after Gerrard's shot had been blocked by the goalkeeper.
"The reaction (since the first-leg defeat) over the last two games has been superb. It was vital we didn't let the game go to extra time tonight because of the (Premier League) game we've got on Sunday (against Manchester United)," said Gerrard, Liverpool captain.
