Sui Lu, National Games champion of China, won women's all-around at China's National Gymnastics Championship Friday night in Xiantao, central China's Hubei province.
The competition wasn't attended by multiple Olympic champions as expected. Yang Yilin, Beijing Olympic champion who only participated in vault and parallel bar Friday night to get qualifications for the finals that will be held during this weekend, made fatal mistakes in both and Deng Linlin, another Olympic champion, failed to snatch gold due to average performance and some small mistakes, while Sui Lu, not a so bright star, performed steadily and smoothly in all the four games.
"It did not occur to me that I could win. I just want to exert my ability. I'm satisfied with my performance in floor exercise and beam," the gold medalist said,"My success today is attributed to a good state of mind."
"Performance of those young gymnasts is encouraging," said Lu Shanzhen, coach of the Chinese gymnastic women's team.
The four-day event in Xiantao city, known as "cradle of gymnastic champions", kicked of on Thursday, attracting more than 200 gymnasts from 22 provincial teams.
