Singapore's Lam Chih Bing has a million reasons to look forward to his appearance at the inaugural CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Malaysia next week.

The Asian Tour stalwart was the last man to gain entry into the cash-rich US$6 million tournament, which takes place at the Mines Resort and Golf Club from October 28 to 31, after countryman Mardan Mamat broke into the top-10 of the Order of Merit last Sunday.

And by virtue of finishing second in the regional qualifier in Indonesia in July where he coincidently lost to Mardan, Lam will take his place in the elite 40-man field where a winner's cheque of US$1 million is at stake.

Lam is relishing the opportunity of competing against many of the world's stars in the event sanctioned by the Asian Tour, PGA Tour and Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM).

"I must thank Mardan for playing well in the Iskandar Johor Open which saw him qualify for the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Malaysia through the Asian Tour's top-10. I'm glad that everything worked out well for me and I'm now looking forward to playing at the Mines Resort,"said Lam, who holds one Asian Tour victory.

Among the Asian Tour stars who will headline the event include current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Noh Seung-yul of Korea, Australians Marcus Fraser and Andrew Dodt and popular Thai duo Thaworn Wiratchant and Thongchai Jaidee.

They will be joined by Europe's Ryder Cup hero Luke Donald of England, rising star Rickie Fowler of the United States, South Africans Retief Goosen, a two-time US Open champion and Ernie Els, Asian Tour honorary member and seven-time PGA Tour winner K.J. Choi of Korea and Australian Robert Allenby, who is a four-time winner on the PGA Tour.

Asia's first Major champion, Y.E. Yang of Korea and Arjun Atwal, the first Indian to win on the US PGA Tour and a two-time Malaysian Open champion, will also head full speed to Malaysia.

"It will be exciting for our guys to compete against players from the PGA Tour. We have always competed against the Europeans, so this is something different and to look forward to,"said Lam.

Lam represented his country alongside Mardan at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup on four occasions and in 2008 wrote a slice of history by becoming the first Singaporean to play in all four rounds at the British Open in 2008.

He subsequently went on to win his maiden Asian Tour title by winning the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia in Bangkok later that year.

This season, Lam has proven to be one of the most consistent golfers on the Asian Tour, having missed only two cuts. He has two top-10s but is yearning to return to the winner's enclosure soon.

"My game has been consistent and I just need to put in four good rounds to give myself a chance,"said the 33-year-old.
