The athletes and officials that will represent China at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Para Games have touched down in the host city. The delegation, receiving a warm welcome at the airport.
The Chinese Seated Volleyball Team and the Chinese Wheelchair Fencing Team among those arriving in Guangzhou on Tuesday afternoon.
The Women's Seated Volleyball Team won the championship at the 2004 Athens Paralympics and the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
The Wheelchair team also grabbed the Men's and Women's gold of the Foil, Saber and Epee events in both team and singles in 2004 and 2008.
The Chinese delegation's 631 people is the biggest squad at the Guangzhou Asian Para Games.
In all, 448 athletes will be taking part of them, 192 participated in the Beijing Paralympics, 76 of those competing in Guangzhou won gold medals at the Beijing Paralympics. The Chinese delegation will participate in all 19 sports in Guangzhou.
Asian Para Games Athletes' Village opens
As well, the Asian Para Games Athletes' Village officially opened on Wednesday. The construction of the Public Zone, International Zone and 512 fully accessible apartments has finished. There are over 5,000 metres of wheelchair accessible paths and the village offers 350 fully accessible busses for the athletes.
Venues ready for Asian Para Games athletes
The Guangzhou Asian Para Games is the first-ever Asian Para Games and in all, over 25-hundred athletes from 41 countries and regions will be participating.
The Asian Para Games have 19 sports and 337 events including Athletics, Swimming, Table Tennis and Shooting. The competition venues will be the same as the venues for the Asian Games. All the venues for the athletes are now open.
