Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, son of the late Afro Beat King Fela, is one of the musicians to sing at the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
A statement reaching?Lagos from the South African High Commission in Lagos on Tuesday said, some other artistes to perform at the ceremony included Khaled and Osibisa.
The statement said rehearsals for the World Cup opening ceremony had been kept a top secret these past few months, but FIFA was finally starting to reveal some information about the event.
"We want it to be a great surprise for fans," the statement quoted the chief marketing officer of the World Cup Local Organizing Committee Derek Carstens as saying.
"FIFA announced that Friday's ceremony would feature only African talent, with the exception of superstar headliner R. Kelly, who will be performing alongside the Soweto Spiritual Choir," it added.
"Almost 1,600 performers will be dancing, singing and ululating their way through the almost hour-long spectacle," the statement said.
