Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Moeneeb “Slim Kat” Josephs says the team will avoid complacency going into their opening game of the FIFA World Cup against Mexico on Friday.
He said despite having won 12 games in a row, it will be a different ball game altogether when they take on Mexico.
“There will definitely be no complacency from the players as we know how that can destroy the team. We know the importance of the game and we will take it very seriously. We want to start with a win and then take it from there,” he said.
The Orlando Pirates goal-minder also asked the media to be positive in their reporting to boost the team’s morale.
“We ask that there should be no negative reporting from our own media. We are professional footballers and we have nothing to prove at all.
We will just go out there and play for our country to win. We have been at Soccer City and the atmosphere was very good against Bulgaria.
We just hope it would be more than that so that we get some motivation and encouragement from the supporters.
It is a big game for the country which we have been planning for three months and it’s finally here. So we cannot waste all the preparations at this time. It will be tough for Mexico and easy for us,” Josephs concluded.
