Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has assured the Super Eagles that they will be given 1.7 million U.S. dollars if they beat Argentina in their opening Group B match of the World Cup on Saturday.
The president made the announcement when he met with members of the team and their officials in their Protea Hotel in Johannesburg on Friday.
"If you win the opening match, I will go back home in flying colors to mobilize the private sector to donate to this cause," a statement reaching here quoted the president as saying.
He asked the Super Eagles to see themselves as representatives of Africa and make the continent proud in the tournament.
"The weight of Africa is on you. You must see yourselves as carrying the light of not only Nigeria but the African continent as well," he told the players.
