American tennis player Serena Williams will not participate in France's international tennis tournament Roland-Garros because of health problems, the French Tennis Federation said Friday.
The 29-year-old player was unable to take part in 2011 Roland-Garros games as she "insufficiently recovered from her foot injury and pulmonary embolism," the federation said on its website.
The former world No. 1 has not played since July 2010 after winning Wimbledon title.
Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky and Russian Dinara Safina will not participate either due to injuries.
They will be replaced by Anna Tatishvili from Georgia and Anne Keothavong of Britain respectively.
Roland-Garros will kick off in May 22.
