An injury from last week's Premier League match against Swansea kept Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United's Champions League match against Benfica at home on Tuesday.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney had picked up a "couple of knocks" in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Swansea, but the England striker had been expected to recover in time.
However Rooney was ruled out of the squad as Ferguson revealed his lineup to face the Portuguese side.
Ashley Young and Dimitar Berbatov will pitch on the Manchester United attack line back up from a four-man midfield consisting of Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Nani.
