English Premier League team Manchester City today was confirmed
as the fourth international club to compete in August's Shanghai
International Soccer Tournament, the Associated Press
reported.
?
The club will join Spain's Athletico Madrid, Japan's Kashima
Antlers, and hometown heroes Shanghai Shenhua in the tournament,
organizers said.
Manchester City will likely be the most closely watched team in
the tournament, with a lineup featuring Chinese international Sun
Jihai.
Officials from the team, which lost nine of its last 10 league
matches to finish 15th in the Premier League, say they're looking
to sign four world-class players over the summer.
The tournament will use a new scoring system that awards teams
an additional point for each goal scored, on top of the usual three
points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a
loss.
