Holders China notched up a record sixth win in the Sudirman Cup
after beating Indonesia 3-0 on Sunday in the world mixed team
badminton championships.
This marks a sixth win in seven appearances for the perennial
favorites, only dropping the title once in 2003 to South Korea.
Chinese mixed duo Zheng Bo/Gao Ling survived an early scare to
defeat Limpele Flandy/Vita Marissa 19-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
After the win, Gao commented: "I had faced this Indonesian duo
before but with my former partner Zhang Jun. Their speed caught me
by surprise today. They put us on the back-foot and won the first
Game. Zheng is young but this new Sudirman Cup experience will him
improve."
Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng then took China to the brink of victory by
thrashing new pair Kido Markis/Candra Wijaya 21-11, 21-13 in the
men's doubles. Olympic champion Zhang Ning then calmly took the
title for her country by dispatching Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16,
21-9.
