   Wolong Nature Reserve

 

Established in 1963, the reserve covers an area of about 200,000 hectares in the Qionglai Mountains. Now, Wolong Nature Reserve has become China's largest and most important sanctuary for giant pandas and other rare and precious animals and plants during the climatic fluctuations of the ice age.Wolong Nature Reserve is a protected area in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province. In June 1980, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda was established at Wolong by the World Wildlife Fund and the Chinese government.


In the reserve, there are more than 4,000 species and more than 150 giant pandas. Wolong is also home to many other endangered species, including red pandas, golden monkeys, white-lipped deer and many precious plants.

Best time to visit: Year-round

Admission: 15 yuan; plus an additional 30 yuan for the Giant Panda Zoo
