Terry Gou (郭臺(tái)銘)
Terry Gou is a Taiwan tycoon who leads Hon Hai Precision, a company that manufactures electronics on contract for other companies. He was dethroned as Taiwan's richest man after a tough 2010 in which the company attracted international attention following a string of suicides at its mainland operations. Subsequent wage increases won't help costs. Yet Hon Hai, better known in the industry by its trade name Foxconn, still has a strong customer list that includes Apple and HP. Gou founded the company in 1974 with $7,500. It is now the largest such electronics manufacturing services company in the world, with factories in several countries, mostly in Chinese mainland, where it employs 800,000 people.
