   Battle of the Santa Cruz (圣克魯斯海戰(zhàn))

 

Location: Santa Cruz Islands, southwestern Pacific Ocean Date: 25 --27 October, 1942


Countries: Japan vs. United States

Aircraft carriers: Japan: 2 fleet carriers (Shokaku and Zuikaku) and 1 light fleet carrier (Zuiho) vs U.S.: 2 fleet carriers (USS Enterprise and Hornet)

Result: This battle was the fourth carrier battle of the Pacific campaign of World War II. After the battle, Japan got a tactical victory with two carriers damaged, while U.S. navy lost the Hornet and the Enterprise was heavily damaged.
