Born in Beijing, Zhang Xin moved to Hong Kong with her parents when she was a child and obtained a master's degree in development economics from Cambridge University in 1992. In 1994, Zhang married Pan Shiyi, and co-founded SOHO China with her husband one year later in Beijing. Thanks to Zhang's meticulous guidance, the company went public in Hong Kong in 2007.
In the space of 15 years, SOHO China has become the largest real estate developer in Beijing. The company is most famous for a series of property projects in Beijing's CBD district, such as Jianwai SOHO and Chaowai SOHO, as well as the globally renowned Commune by the Great Wall in Beijing and Bo'ao Kempinski Hotel in Hainan.
