Wang Yuanchong, a female student from the Central Academy of Drama, eclipsed 15 other finalists to win the Miss Campus China Contest 2011.
Launched in 2008 by Xrui, a youth fashion magazine in China, the pageant is also known as the Slek China University Students Beauty Pageant. The contest has been trying to shed off the traditional, controversial way of only focusing on outer beauty. Instead, it provides a venue for China's university students to showcase their grace, charm, talents (in singing, dancing, catwalk, drawing, writing, design and sewing), and knowledge.
This year's contest, which began in September, drew more than 50,000 participants from over 100 universities across the country. After an extremely competitive initial audition and a quarterfinal round, 16 contestants were invited to compete for the title.
The pageant award winners will also receive scholarships, as well as various training and job opportunities. They have inspired countless Chinese students to develop their inner beauty and talents.
