Temple of Heaven in Beijing 天壇公園(北京)
The Temple of Heaven, literally the Altar of Heaven, lies in southeastern Beijing. First built in 1420, it is the largest existing complex of ancient sacrificial buildings in China. Emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) visit the complex every winter to worship Heaven, offering sacrifices to ancestors and praying for good harvests and rainfall. It was inscribed on the UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List in 1998.
