Shanghai ranks as the most popular city for domestic tourists during the National Day holiday, according to a recent report released by the China Tourism Research Institute and Ctrip.com, one of the largest online travel agencies on the Chinese mainland.

The study was based on several factors affecting travel during the holiday period, including hotel and air ticket booking data, and the situation of free tours and paid group tours regarding tourist destinations in major cities.
