Nanhai Zizhu Temple, Gaoxiong county
Located in Neimen town, Gaoxiong county, the city of Fengshan in Taiwan Province, Nanhai Zizhu Temple is the religious center of local citizens. Though located quite far, it attracts an incessant stream of pilgrims. The appearance of the temple adopts the traditional Chinese architectural style, with meticulous carvings and smooth lines. Gods worshipped in the temple include Guanyin Bodhisattva and the King Miaozhuang who was said to be the worldly father of Guanyin Bodhisattva in Buddhist stories.
Besides, the most exciting or visually appealing event in Neimen town is perhaps the Songjiang parade troupe, which has been included in the 12 big festival activities in Taiwan. There are dozens of artistic parade troupes in Nanhai Zizhu Temple, including Songjiang, Daqi, Dragon parade troupe and Lion parade troupe. They are the most unique feature in the temple. Visitors who would like to probe the folk culture of the island should not miss it.
What to see: The traditional ceremony held in the 2nd lunar month is the most worth seeing.
Transportation: Take a train to Pingdong Railway Station, change to the minibus to Qishan or Tainan, and take the transfer bus to Nanhai Zizhu Temple.
