South Silk Road 茶馬古道
South Silk Road was opened by a renowned Beijing artist, Fang Lijun, and it shows. Its minimalist loft-style space and super-hip clientele might make it too cool for some tastes. A more homely, if incongruous, touch is provided by the traditional costumes of the waiting staff. All the usual Yunnan favorites are available including rubing (fried cheese) and across the bridge noodles, plus some more recherche dishes such as chui niupi (fried beef skin with a spicy sauce). A good place to watch the aspiring trying to rub shoulders with the already arrived.
